Student at Ecole Centrale Lyon, I read this book.
The several chapters of the book are : basic concepts and definitions, conduction heat transfer, one-dimensional steady-state conduction, unsteady heat conduction, convective heat transfer, radiation heat transfer, mass transfer, boiling and condensation, heat exchangers.
Going from basic concepts to very specific topics, this book is detailed and very well organized.
Moreover, at each end of chapter, there are a summary and many exercices with solutions.
You can easily see the hard work of Professor Rathakrishnan to make this book very rewarding for students, engineers, researchers and professors.
Therefore, I strongly recommend this book as all the books written by this Professor.

Heat Transfer: Go for it !!

Elements of Heat Transfer presents a very well knit text, standing equally good for a wide band of readers, from undergraduate students to graduate researchers of engineering background and from academics to real life involving practical applications. Almost every possible mode of heat transfer from every possible type of surface has been explained in `plain' English without any jargons, unless otherwise specified, with its corresponding and important correlations derived step-by-step followed by illustratively solved examples. A special mention I would like to make is for the key chapters on Mass Transfer and Boiling and Condensation, which distinguishes this book from the rest. Rather than jumping over concepts and derivations like others, the intriguing follow-up in this chapter with every detail, doesn't leave the reader in dilemma or confusion at any instant and helps them to make a strong command over it instantly. A strong supplement of solved and unsolved examples after regular intervals and at the end of the chapter respectively, aids in strengthening of the concepts. Finally, like other texts from Prof. Rathakrishnan, a great reference to practical applications of discussed topics gives this book an edge over others and qualifies easily for a strong recommendation.
