Disappointment-more like reprint of notes

This book was a disappointment because it appeared to be the publication of a course professor's notes and images. CRC Press does publish this type of book but it would enhance CRC Press's reputation if they were to require much more from author's who are trying to get their notes published in a book format. The text was brief and left the reader having to find other sources to fill in some of the gaps in knowledge. However, the worst part in my opinion was the images. Some of the images were too small and should have been enlarged to illustrate parts of the tissue or cells better. The illustrations on occasion lacked cohesion as they seemed to be drawings that had been computerized or stylized on the computer. The latter aspect is not a bad idea but one needs to make a reasonable linkage between the illustration or illustrations and text. I also expected that a Clinical Embryology text as this was purported to be would have much more clinical descriptions, connections and references. This was not the case. Sadly, I cannot recommend this text even for historical or simplicity reasons and I would suggest there are much better texts around even at the simpler and clinical level.

What a thrill

I have always been fascinated with coasters. As a kid I could stand and stare for hours at these twisted steel masterpieces. This book gives great insight on what it takes to put these behemoths together as well as an overview of their history. Nick did a superb job of making this an informative and exciting read for the coaster enthusiast. I came away from this read with an even greater appreciation for roller coasters and the men and women who design them.

I really enjoyed reading Coasters 101. The content is thorough and educational, but the language is simple and straightforward. I wasn't bogged down with wordiness or technical jargon, yet I felt more knowledgeable about the subject matter after finishing the book.

This would make an excellent gift for anyone who wants more to know more than the bare basics of roller coaster design, especially someone who is interested in seeking a career in roller coaster design or engineering. It also makes for a great go-to reference for any technical roller coaster information, so keep it handy.

Gave me more reasons to appreciate roller coasters

Personally I don't particularly enjoy roller coasters, but my 11-year-old son decided to take a class that introduces him to physics by studying how to design roller coasters. So I bought this book to help him get ready for the class. Then I started reading it and discovered ... designing coasters has a lot of complexities I had not previously appreciated. So I quickly got drawn into the book and finished it. It's not a long read, but it does the trick to explain why coaster engineering could be a great job. The book will make me enjoy attending theme parks more in the future (that is, when I succumb to family pressure and attend them despite my preference to spend my vacation in other ways). The book could be improved by adding more depth to the sections that briefly list non-traditional-engineering aspects of designing, building, and operating coasters, such as the management and economics of the theme park, psychology of what makes different kinds of movements more or less exciting, set and lighting design, or advances in technology that could make future coasters a hybrid of physical engineering and interactive computer-controlled multi-media. The book is at the edge of what a quantitatively-oriented middle-school kid would appreciate; you can get a lot out of the book without being able to fully follow the math equations that show up occasionally in the text.

The procedure involves, of course, the omission of some important elements in the history of the theory of translation, in that it ignores the discrepancies between precept and practice, and the influence which practice has exerted upon theory; on the other hand, however, it confines a subject, otherwise impossibly large, within measurable limits. The chief emphasis has been laid upon the sixteenth century, the period of the most enthusiastic experimentation, when, though it was still possible for the translator to rest in the comfortable medieval conception of his art, the New Learning was offering new problems and new ideals to every man who shared in the intellectual awakening of his time. In the matter of theory, however, the age was one of beginnings, of suggestions, rather than of finished, definitive results; even by the end of the century there were still translators who had not yet appreciated the immense difference between medieval and modern standards of translation. To understand their position, then, it is necessary to consider both the preceding period, with its incidental, half-unconscious comment, and the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, with their systematized, unified contribution.

Es un buen libro pero prefiero la versión en Inglés.

Yo comencé leyendo la versión en Inglés y me parece mucho mejor que la versión en Español. Encontré algunos errores de redacción y conceptos que difieren de la versión en Inglés. El contenido del libro es una excelente introducción para quienes inician en el área de gestión por procesos.

Encontré interesante la descripción de los roles y las herramientas tecnológicas que apoyan la gestión por procesos.

Experiencia exitosa en BPMN 2.0

Es una publicación sorprendente sobre la poderosa capacidad descriptiva de los procesos y procedimientos mediante el idioma gráfico (casi ideo-gráfico) BPMN 2.0, explicada e ilustrada en español. Tal vez es imprecisa la anotación de la tapa anterior (cubierta exterior) del libro en el párrafo que dice "En este libro aprenderá ..."; el libro no fue diseñado como herramienta para "apredizaje desde cero". El propósito es servir de y de ; lo que si puedo decir, por mi experiencia propia, es que si el lector de este libro combina la lectura comprensiva con el póster (en español, que fue publicado en [...], y si dicho lector tiene la mente el modelo de pensamiento de "sistemas y procesos ó procedimientos" (con o sin ingenieros de software de por medio) aprenderá rápidamente este idioma, y sentirá que por fin hay una herramienta conceptual adecuada para "modelar procesos".
El BPMN no fue diseñado para hacer los trabajos "a mano" ni con herramientas básicas de "diseño gráfico avanzado; e.g. Microsoft(R) Visio Premium 2010 v14.0.6123.5001" porque se pierde o desperdician dos conceptos muy importantes y poderosos: "modelamiento" y "simulación", y de paso la posibilidad de "documentar cada elemento directamente" con referencias de tipo hiperenlace.
Hay herramientas de software (licenciamiento con / sin costo) para realizar una excelente "primera práxis" y obtener una visión reveladora de cómo BPMN (y lo que ilustra este libro en particular) puede ayudar a las organizaciones, incluso sin tener que adoptar todos los componentes del gigante BPM. Preveo felices experiencias en los futuros organizacionales con el uso de estos descriptivos y poderosos conceptos de procesos y procedimientos.
El póster mencionado arriba, y el estándar publicado por OMG, incluyen conceptos no desrrollados en la primera edición 2011 del libro , y espero que en una próxima versión "corregida y aumentada" podamos contar con las explicaciones complementarias

I finds his writing humble yet powerful, and relevant to a variety of ages and levels of understanding. As with the other books by this author that I have completed, Failure: the back door to success was clear and well-organized while being deep and meaningful. I was excited about this particular title because I need a better idea of failure. I tend to become quite disappointed with myself and don't often know how to turn my failures into something good character-wise. I was blessed to read this book. Every chapter was interesting and helpful and I found it very easy to read this book. At the same time, as with Erwin Lutzer's other books, I hope to go back and slowly read the book, properly meditating on each chapter. I recommend this book to a variety of readers!

THE BEST BOOK I'VE EVER READ

Erwin Lutzer has long been a favorite preacher of mine because of his honesty, integrity with the Word of God and his erudition that goes beyond his mere choice of words or vocabulary. Like much of what he does, Lutzer captures the essence of how God looks at success; a topic of great interest in our achievement-oriented world. As one who has experienced both what the world would consider success and failure, this excellent work has provided me and countless others with a Biblical beacon for assessing the meaning of our lives and the wonder of God's gracious experiment with us -- making us into something beautiful in the midst of our ashes. From among the literally hundreds of books I have read over my lifetime, I would recommend this one first after the Scriptures themselves.

About the Author
is currently Director and Professor of Women Studies at University of California-Irvine. She received her Ph.D. in English from the University of California at Berkeley. A founder of Narika, an agency that addresses the needs of South Asian women in the U.S., she works with activist groups that focus on Asian women and immigration issues. She has authored a monograph and co-edited several books and journal issues, often with her long time collaborator Caren Kaplan. Her special interests include the history of British imperialism, non-western women travelers, consumer culture and globalization, South Asian women in diaspora, and the new transnational feminist activism

Caren Kaplan is currently Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Women's Studies at the University of California at Davis. After receiving her Ph.D. in the History of Consciousness Program at the University of California at Santa Cruz, she served on the faculty in the Department of English at Georgetown University from 1986 to 1992. The author of a monograph as well as the co-editor of several books, she has collaborated with Inderpal Grewal for many years on essays and edited collections. Her special interests are the history of Western and international feminism, feminist theory, and aspects of imperialism and globalization such as travel, tourism, and information technologies.

The only problem with this text is that the full length articles are not reprinted here. Other than that, it is a fairly good introduction to anyone researching women studies in the age of globalization.The organization of the book is appropriate, as are the introduction to the each of the sections.

What can i say Except this book was Amazing! I decided to take a Women's Studies Class at The University of Houston,and my professor had assigned this book. By the end of the semester we had finished the entire thing. All the topics exposed in it are eyeopening, and intriguing. I highly recommend this one especially if you're into any controversial topics and want to read up on some of them. Its a great read especially because its divided into specific topics. Although it is geared towards a "classroom read" Its just a great discussion book.

Soft and natural

These lush photos convey an enjoyable mix of impressions. The first might be Friedlander's monumental sense of the human form. Many times throughout this book, he presents the model as structure, displaying her strength and solidity at the same time as her native grace. Other images emphasize her softness, where skin creases or where curves respond to gravity or compression. Some of the photos encourage different kinds of viewing of the image. In one, the model's pensive look raises the question, what does she look at, or what private moment did the camera invade? In another, the model's animal form comes first, and yet another praises the curves and marks that distinguish this one person from all others.

Friedlander captures a comfortable, natural look in each un-named model. That includes some or all of her normal adult fuzz. The look might jar an eye tuned to smoothly groomed fantasy figures. Add in a healthy assortment of curves and a sag or two, and this becomes a celebration of people as they are. Where other photographers idealize hardbodies, or youthful looks, or some specific vision of beauty, Friedlander does something much more difficult. He presents the ordinary charm of a typical woman, fuzz and all, and shows that her beauty is an ideal in itself.

Beautiful essence of real women

Friedlander exquisitely captures the true essence of real women. These women, usually photographed in their own apartments, are not models -- they are authentic. Friedlander's work shows every blemish, hair, and "imperfection", which made this reader almost feel as if I could hear them breathing, smell their skin. To see such a beautiful work with wonderful women who did not see the necessity of applying thick layers of makeup, shaving body hair, or wearing excessive jewelry was truly refreshing. Thank you Mr. Friedlander for "exposing" what women really look like!

I love female body! It is artwork from God. Pictures here reflect quality of photographer to capture beauty of woman. Mr. Friedlander very professional to make this wonderful photography art.
